Which SIM does the Optimus 4G take?

A nano SIM (4FF), voice-capable, registered and active before install. The Optimus range is audio intercom — calls and SMS — so it doesn't need a data plan, but it does need a SIM that can make voice calls. Data-only IoT SIMs won't ring anyone.

Which network?

Any UK network with 4G at the gate position. The honest answer for most rural gates is "whichever one actually works there", which you only learn by testing — or skip the test with a multi-network SIM that registers on the strongest carrier available and moves if coverage changes.

Pay-monthly SIM? Spend cap on before the panel goes live.

Fitting the SIM

For the installing engineer, power off:

1. Open the panel; the SIM holder is on the main board.
2. Seat the nano SIM — one orientation — and secure it.
3. Antenna connected before power-up, positioned high and clear of metal.

First power-up

Let the unit register on network, then program the first call number by SMS following the install guide syntax exactly. Test the full chain: button press, call lands, keypress on the phone, relay clicks, gate moves.

If it won't connect

• No network registration: SIM active, PIN off, 4G present at the gate. Test the SIM in a phone at the panel.
• SMS programming ignored: syntax. One wrong character and the panel says nothing.
• Call connects but relay won't fire: output wiring and relay settings, not the SIM.

Optimus or Commtel — same thing? Same manufacturer, same platform. Manuals and SIM guidance apply across both names.

Will it work after the 2G/3G switch-offs? Yes — it's 4G hardware. That's the reason to fit it over older GSM stock.

What SIM plan does it need? Voice and SMS. Low usage — a modest plan or a multi-network intercom SIM covers it.
