Which SIM does the BFT MultiCom take?
A standard size SIM (2FF), voice-capable, active and with the PIN lock removed. The MultiCom is a multi-resident panel, but it still works like every GSM intercom underneath: one SIM, calls out to residents' phones.
Which network?
The MultiCom is 2G-era hardware, so it needs a network still broadcasting 2G at the building. That list is shrinking and varies by postcode. A multi-network SIM registers on whichever compatible network is strongest and re-registers if that network changes — on a panel serving a whole block, that resilience is worth having.
Spend cap on before it goes live: a multi-resident panel makes a lot of calls.
Fitting the SIM
For the installing engineer, power down:
- Open the panel; the SIM holder is on the main board.
- Seat the standard SIM — one orientation — and lock the holder.
- Antenna connected before power, mounted high and clear of the panel's own metalwork.
First power-up
Let the module register, then program resident numbers per the manual. Test at least two flats end to end: call button, phone rings, keypress releases the door.
If it won't connect
- No registration: confirm 2G coverage at the building — test the SIM in an old phone at the panel.
- Some flats unreachable: number programming, not the network. Check formats.
- Registers then drops: marginal signal — antenna height or high-gain.
FAQ
How long will a 2G MultiCom stay serviceable? Until 2G is switched off in your area. Existing installs keep going; plan upgrades to BFT's 4G generation.
Whose SIM should go in? Any voice-capable SIM with 2G coverage at the site. Multi-network takes the guesswork out.
Does one SIM serve all residents? Yes — the panel makes all calls through the single SIM.
