Which SIM does the Akuvox R20K-L take?
A nano SIM (4FF), and it must carry data — the R20K-L's calls and cloud management run over 4G data through Akuvox's SmartPlus platform, not over old-style voice calls.
Which network and allowance?
Strongest 4G data at the panel position — test there, not at the house. A multi-network data SIM keeps the unit on whichever carrier performs best and survives local network changes without a revisit.

Fitting the SIM
For the installing engineer, power down:
- Fit the nano SIM in the slot on the unit.
- Power up and configure the APN for your SIM provider.
- Claim the device in the Akuvox app/SmartPlus, update firmware, add users.
First test
Full chain before you leave site: visitor press, call lands on the phone with video/audio as configured, door release fires. Then disable battery optimisation for the app on the user's phone — the most common "it stopped working" callback is the phone, not the panel.
If it won't connect
- No data: APN settings against the SIM provider's values.
- Cloud unreachable but data fine: allowance exhausted, or platform subscription lapsed.
- Calls not reaching phones: app permissions and battery settings on the handset.
