Which SIM does the AES Praetorian Guard 4G take?
A nano SIM (4FF) — and unlike most gate intercoms, it must be a data SIM. The Praetorian streams video over 4G; a voice-only SIM leaves it mute and blind.
Which network and what allowance?
Two questions here. Network: whichever has strong 4G data at the gate — run a speed test at the panel position, because video streaming needs real bandwidth, not just registration. A multi-network SIM takes the guesswork out and keeps the panel on the strongest carrier as conditions change.
Allowance: video calls consume data on every visitor press. Size the plan for the site's traffic — a busy shared entrance eats far more than a quiet farm gate.
Fitting the SIM
For the installing engineer, power down:
- Open the panel; the SIM slot is on the main board.
- Fit the nano SIM and secure the holder.
- Antenna connected, then power.
- Configure the APN for your SIM provider in the settings — video won't flow until the APN matches.
First power-up
Let it register and pick up data. Pair the AES app, add the first user, and make a full test: call, answer with video, trigger the release. Then disable battery optimisation for the app on the homeowner's phone before you leave — it's the number one cause of "it stopped ringing my phone" callbacks.
If it won't connect
- Registers but no video: APN settings. Check them against your SIM provider's values.
- Video stutters: data speed at the gate. Speed-test at the panel; consider a high-gain antenna.
- Calls not reaching the phone: app permissions and battery settings on the handset.
FAQ
Does it work without home broadband? Yes — that's the point. The 4G SIM is its internet.
Voice SIM or data SIM? Data. Video needs bandwidth.
How much data does it use? Depends on call volume and length. Monitor the first month and size the plan from real usage.
Keep your AES Global Praetorian Guard 4G online.
LynixSIM multi-network SIMs connect to the strongest UK signal (EE, O2, Vodafone, Three) — no single-network dropouts, no contracts, built for intercoms and gate systems.
