Which SIM does the AES OPYN 4G take?

A nano SIM (4FF) carrying data — the OPYN is an app-first video intercom, and when it runs on 4G rather than site WiFi or LAN, everything it does travels over mobile data. A voice-only SIM is no use to it.

Which network and allowance?

Strongest 4G data at the gate — speed-test at the panel position, because video calls need bandwidth in both directions. A multi-network data SIM keeps the panel on the best available carrier and rides out coverage changes without a site visit.

Allowance: video calling on every visitor press adds up. Size generously for month one, check real usage, adjust.

Fitting the SIM

For the installing engineer, power down:

1. Fit the nano SIM in the holder on the unit.
2. Power up and set the APN for your SIM provider — the app connection depends on it.
3. Pair the panel with the AES app and bring firmware current before handover.

First test

Full chain: visitor press, video call lands on the phone, two-way audio, release fires. Then the handover step that prevents most callbacks: disable battery optimisation for the app on the owner's phone.

If it won't connect

• No app connection: APN first, allowance second.
• Video stutters: bandwidth at the gate — antenna position, then network choice.
• Calls stop reaching the phone after a week: the phone's battery settings smothered the app. Whitelist it.
