Which SIM does the AES CellCom Prime take?

Generation matters. The 2G/3G CellCom Prime units take a micro SIM (3FF); the current Prime 7 4G takes a nano SIM (4FF). Check the model label before ordering — the wrong size means a second visit.

SIM registered and active first. AES don't bundle one.

Which network?

With 3G switch-offs rolling across all UK networks, a 2G/3G CellCom is living on borrowed spectrum on some carriers. The practical fix is a multi-network SIM: the panel registers on whichever compatible network is strongest at the gate, and follows the coverage as networks change. For 4G units it's simpler — any network with 4G at the gate — but the multi-network logic still wins on marginal rural sites.

Fitting the SIM

For the installing engineer, power down:

1. Open the unit — the SIM holder sits on the main board.
2. Seat the SIM (one orientation only) and lock the holder.
3. Antenna on before power. If the site is marginal, fit the high-gain antenna now rather than after the callback.

First power-up

Let the unit register — status indication settles when it's on network. Program a call number, then test: press the call button, answer on the phone, trigger the relay from the keypad, and watch the gate.

If it won't connect

• No registration: SIM active? PIN off? Coverage at the gate confirmed on that network's own checker?
• Drops mid-call: marginal signal — the high-gain antenna is the fix, not a different SIM tariff.
• Answers but gate won't open: relay side, not SIM side. Recheck the output wiring.

FAQ

Will my CellCom survive the 3G switch-off? The 2G/3G versions will fall back to 2G where it still exists, which is a stay of execution rather than a fix. The Prime 7 4G is the long-term answer.

Which SIM size do I order? Micro for 2G/3G units, nano for 4G. Check the label.

Does it need data? No — voice and SMS. Use a voice-capable SIM.
