Which SIM does the AES CellCom Prime 7 take?
A nano SIM (4FF), voice-capable, activated before install. This is AES's current 4G generation, so it escapes the 2G/3G switch-off question that hangs over older CellComs — but the SIM still decides whether it works at all.
Which network?
Any UK network with 4G at the gate. AES panels end up on long rural drives more than most, and those are the sites where one network's "coverage" is a bar of nothing. A multi-network SIM registers on the strongest carrier actually present — the closest thing to certainty a gate intercom gets. Different networks also need different APN settings on this panel; get the APN from your SIM provider and set it per the manual.
Fitting the SIM
For the installing engineer, power down:
- Open the panel; the SIM holder is on the controller board.
- Fit the nano SIM and secure the holder.
- Antenna on before power. On marginal sites fit AES's high-gain antenna at install rather than after the callback.
First power-up
Let it register, set the APN if your provider needs one, then program through the Cellcom Prime Programmer app. Run the reception check in the app before you finish — AES build it in for a reason. Test the full chain: button, call, relay, gate.
If it won't connect
- Registers but features misbehave: APN. Set it to your provider's values.
- Weak reception in the app check: antenna position or high-gain upgrade.
- App programming fails: confirm you're on the intercom's SIM number, not the site owner's mobile.
FAQ
Will it survive the network switch-offs? Yes — 4G hardware. That's its main advantage over older CellCom stock.
Which SIM size? Nano (4FF). Older 2G/3G CellComs took micro — don't reuse.
Voice or data SIM? Voice-capable. It calls phones; it doesn't stream video.
